Read more & save time

I remember a discussion I had with someone last October.

When you read, you view the text letter by letter, add every letter to the previous part of the word and acknowledge it. Naturally, in time we learn to recognize some of the words, so we are able to read them just by viewing them, but only one by one usually.

But let’s say you enter a room that you’ve never been in before. You open the door, take a quick look inside and close the door again. You have only seen the furniture and the carpets for a second. How come you are able to remember them all? How come you remember their colors? Their position in the room?

What if you could do the same with the words you read?

I’m an average reader for sure. I can read 211 words per minute with a comprehension of 64%. The test I took was in English. This might have lowered the results I could reach in my native language and still, I am definitely an average reader. Average means 200 words per minute and 60% comprehension. You can find some speed reading resources I read till now. As I find better ones, I will add them to the visible links.

I entered a site where I was rated with a 267 words per minute reading speed. After some short exercise I did on the web site, my reading speed increased to 290. But I’ll probably lose it without practice. Sustainability is everywhere. :o)

they say a good reader is 5 times faster than an average one.
enjoy!
